“We will recognize the JCPOA only when it observes the nine conditions set by the Supreme Leader,” Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani said in an address to a large gathering of worshippers in Tehran on Friday.
Back on October 21, Imam Khamenei sent a letter to President Hassan Rouhani and highlighted nine main points that the administration will need to take note of regarding the course of implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
Elsewhere in his comments, Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani warned Saudi Arabia of the dire consequences of the possible execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
He said the Riyadh regime’s mistakes are leading to the ruling family’s downfall, recommending the Saudi officials to exercise a bit of wisdom.
Sheikh Nimr was detained in July 2012 following demonstrations that erupted in Qatif region. He is accused of delivering anti-regime speeches and defending political prisoners.
His arrest sparked widespread protests in the Arab country, leaving several people dead.
Last October, Sheikh Nimr’s family reported that a Saudi judge has found him guilty of “sedition” and sentenced him to death.
A couple of days ago, a Saudi appeals court upheld the death sentence, referring his case to King Salman’s office.
Activists say there are over 30,000 political prisoners in Saudi Arabia.
